The whole Harpa Building (Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre) is inspired by nature: Icelandic scenaries are unforgettable and inescapable, even in a big city such as Reykjavik. In particular, the characteristic local basalt formations have provided the inspiration for the geometric facade structure.
The façades are the most impressive aspect of the project, designed in close collaboration between Henning Larsen Architects, the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and the engineering companies Rambøll and ArtEngineering GmbH from Germany. The project won the Mies van der Rohe Award 2013 (European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture).

the way the architect has encaptured the northern lights within the glass panes is incredible. I suggest it is a must see for any aspiring architects !!
I’m glad you think so as well! 🙂
